In principle, you can connect as many UMS Servers and UMS Load Balancers in an HA network as you want. However, two basic scenarios for typical applications should be described in greater detail:
- Basic HA, e.g. to ensure the availability of user profiles (Shared Workplace) for a relatively small number of devices
Load distribution (network with a great number of devices)
When deciding how many UMS Servers and UMS Load Balancers you need, simply counting your endpoint devices is not enough. Most importantly, you have to analyze the entire network environment as well as the other circumstances within your workplace. Contact your IGEL reseller to get the counsel.
The UMS Server and UMS Load Balancer must be in the same IP network. There must be NO NAT or proxies between the UMS Server and UMS Load Balancer because they can influence communication between the components.
If there is a firewall between the UMS Server and UMS Load Balancer, it must be configured according to UMS Communication Ports.
