This FAQ contains general information about the new IGEL Subscription License (ISL), which will be available from January 1, 2026.
Which IGEL OS version does ISL require?
IGEL OS 12.7.2 or higher.
Do I need to take any action on January 1, 2026, if I already have Workspace Edition (WE) licenses?
No, you do not need to take any action on January 1, 2026.
Where's the difference between the IGEL Subscription License (ISL) and the Workspace Edition (WE)?
Workspace Edition (WE) was originally designed for IGEL OS 11.
IGEL Subscription License is designed for IGEL OS 12. Only version 12.7.2 or higher is compatible, Downwards compatibility is not given.
Can I still renew my WE?
Yes, you can renew your WE product packs by renewing the Subscription Keys that contain them.
What happens to my add-on licenses?
They work with the IGEL Subscription Licenses the same way that they worked with the WE licenses.
Can I convert my Workspace Edition (WE) to IGEL Subscription License (ISL)?
No, this is not possible at the moment.
What do I need to consider in a hybrid environment with IGEL OS 11 and OS 12?
For New Licenses (ISL)
Assign the IGEL Subscription License (ISL) only to devices running IGEL OS 12.
Ensure that the devices are running IGEL OS version 12.7.2 or higher.
For Existing Devices
No changes are required.
Workspace Edition (WE) licenses can continue to be assigned to both IGEL OS 11 and IGEL OS 12 devices (incl. OS 12.7.2 or higher), as previously supported.
Expanding Licenses from 2026 for Existing Environments
Assign Workspace Edition (WE) product packs to IGEL OS 11 devices.
Assign IGEL Subscription Licenses (ISL) to IGEL OS 12 devices.
IGEL Subscription License (ISL) is not backward-compatible with IGEL OS 11. Attempting to apply ISL on OS 11 devices is not supported.
