Configuring Digital Signage on IGEL OS

IGEL Digital Signage app is a lean and secure digital signage solution that makes it possible to define a URL for digital signage content, application for displaying this content, etc. Currently, you can set up the IGEL Digital Signage app to display a web page / application only, but more use cases are planned for the future app releases.

This article describes how you can create an IGEL Digital Signage session and configure it on IGEL OS.

If you use the technical preview version of IGEL Digital Signage app, i.e. version 1.0.0 BUILD 1.0 TP 2, note that it will not be further developed and cannot be updated. Instead, you need to import IGEL Digital Signage app version 2.1.0 BUILD 1.0 or higher and create new profiles.

Requirements

How to Create an IGEL Digital Signage Session

  1. In the IGEL UMS, create a profile configuring the app. For details on profile creation, see How to Create and Assign Profiles in the IGEL UMS Web App.

  2. In the Profile Configurator, go to Apps > Igel Digital Signage > Sessions and click +.

  4. Edit the settings described below according to your needs.

  5. Save the settings and assign the profile to the required devices / device directories. For details on profile assignment, see How to Create and Assign Profiles in the IGEL UMS Web App.
After the app installation is complete on the device, it functions as a digital signage device.

Content to show
Provide the URL of the web page / application you would like to display as digital signage. (Default: https://www.igel.com)

Use this setting to define the screen numbers. Separate the screens with “|” if the fullscreen content must be expanded across several screens. (Default: 1)

Examples:
1 - The content will be displayed only on the first screen.
2 - The content will be displayed only on the second screen.
1|2|3 - The content will be stretched across the defined screens.
1|3 - Invalid configuration.

Display externally

Enable this setting if you want to use an external application for displaying the content (e.g. a specific browser such as Chromium, Firefox, etc.) or require certain browser extensions.

  • The content will be displayed in the external application that is configured under Apps > Igel Digital Signage > Global configuration > External app.
  • The content will be displayed in an embedded browser based on Chromium. (Default)

If Display externally is enabled, the screen configuration is managed by the external application. The setting Screens to use cannot be configured.

Error handling

Defines what should happen if an error occurs.

Possible values:

  • stop: An error message will be displayed, and the content playback will be stopped. (Default)

  • skip: An error message will be skipped, and the content playback will continue.

Configuring Global Settings

  1. In the Profile Configurator, go to Apps > Igel Digital Signage > Global configuration.

Global Settings for IGEL Digital Signage

  2. Edit the settings according to your needs. The parameters are described below.

  • Normal mode will be used. (Default)
