IGEL Licensing and Subscription Glossary

Term	Synonyms and Acronyms	Description
Subscription Key		The Subscription Key is a permanent ID that is used to decouple the actual license order or renewal from the management and assignment of the licenses in the IGEL License Portal (ILP) and the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS). If you want to renew your subscriptions, you need the Subscription Key to place the order. A Subscription Key can have several Product Packs, and a Product Pack has always just one Subscription Key.
Product Pack		A Product Pack is a term used in the ILP to refer to a set of licenses. A Product Pack ID is assigned to a permanent Subscription Key. The administrator works with the Product Packs in the ILP to roll out licenses via the UMS to IGEL OS endpoint devices.
Product Pack ID		The Product Pack ID is an identifier used for administration tasks in the ILP, like splitting or merging Product Packs, or for deploying licenses via Automatic License Deployment (ALD). It consists of a product specific prefix, a dash, and 5 numbers and/or letters.
UMS ID		The Universal Management Suite (UMS) ID is a unique identifier for each UMS installation. In regards of licenses, it is used when deploying licenses via Automatic License Deployment (ALD). It ensures that licenses are only applied to devices managed by the corresponding UMS server.
Workspace Edition (WE) License	WE pack	The Workspace Edition License is the IGEL OS license that enables a device to run IGEL OS 11 or IGEL OS 12.
UMS License		The Universal Management Suite (UMS) License lets you use different feature sets of the UMS depending on the license level. This is called the feature-based license model. You can select from Essential, Standard and Enterprise UMS License.
multi-licensed hardware	Duped licenses, duplicated licenses	If both automatic and manual methods of license deployment have been used, it may happen that some endpoint devices occupy more licenses than necessary.
IGEL OS Editions		You can purchase your IGEL subscription in the form of an IGEL OS Edition. IGEL OS Editions are designed for different business needs and they include licences for a selection of software, services and features.
IGEL License Portal	ILP	A web-based portal for managing licenses for IGEL OS, IGEL UMS and related products.
Global Account ID	GAID	A Global Account ID (GAID) uniquely identifies an organization within IGEL’s licensing infrastructure. It links all associated licenses, devices, and UMS installations under a single customer identity.
Managed Service Provider	MSP	An MSP manages IGEL infrastructure for multiple clients, typically using multi-tenant UMS setups and centrally managing licensing, updates, and endpoint policies across various customers.
Automatic License Deployment	ALD	ALD is a method where IGEL UMS automatically assigns licenses from a Product Pack to devices as they get registered in the UMS, based on the UMS ID. This streamlines deployment at scale.
license portability		License portability is the ability to transfer an existing IGEL license (e.g., WE license) from one device to another if the original device is decommissioned or replaced. This is limited by IGEL's licensing terms and device matching.
hardware-bundled IGEL license	OEM licenses	A hardware-bundled IGEL license is an IGEL OS device license purchased together with hardware manufactured by an IGEL Hardware Partner. This type of license is connected to an IGEL subscription which is created based on the serial number of the device it is sold with. The license can be separated from its original hardware and can be deployed on a different device.
perpetual licensing	perpetual licenses	This was IGEL's legacy licensing model (before OS 11), where licenses were purchased once and valid indefinitely. IGEL has since migrated to a subscription-based model with IGEL OS 11 and 12.
subscription model		The current IGEL model where licenses (WE, UMS, EMP licenses) are purchased with subscriptions and are time-limited (e.g. 3-year subscription) and renewable.
manual license deployment		The process of manually downloading and deploying license files. The license files are downloaded from a Product Pack in the IGEL License Portal. Then, the license files are deployed on the IGEL OS device via USB/FTP/HTTP or through direct assignment through the IGEL Universal Management Suite.
Enterprise Management Pack License	EMP License	The Enterprise Management Pack (EMP) was an extension of the Workspace Edition License. EMP was a subscription.
add-on license	addon, addons	Licenses that enable specific applications or features connected to IGEL products.
evaluation license	demo license	The evaluation license (or demo license) is a license for testing purposes with a limited license period. There are evaluation licenses available both for IGEL OS 12 and IGEL UMS 12.
IGEL Advanced Device Redirection Add-On License	ADR	The IGEL Advanced Device Redirection License is an add-on license for IGEL OS 12. The license is required to use the IGEL Advanced Device Redirection apps.
starter license		The Start License is the license devices running IGEL OS are equipped with if they have not been licensed with any other license. It has a limited featureset and will stop working after a set time period.
IGEL Agent for Imprivata Add-on License	IAFI	The IGEL Agent for Imprivata License is IGEL-side implementation of the various Imprivata protocolls used in many healthcare enivronments for smartcard-based access.
Ericom Powerterm Add-on License	PWT	The Ericom Powerterm License allows the Powerterm-integration features of IGEL OS to function - both in IGEL OS11 and IGEL OS12
IGEL Managed Hypervisor Add-on License	IMH license	The IGEL Managed Hypverisor License allows customers on OS12 to enable the Managed Hypervisor functionality
Order		An order can contain new licenses, co-term existing licenses, or migrate existing licenses to a different product. It contains one or more order positions.
IGEL Universal Management Suite	UMS, IGEL UMS	The Universal Management Suite (UMS) is the tool IGEL customers can use to manage their IGEL OS devices, assign licenses, track the status of the devices etc.
Renewal		A renewal is an extension of one or more Subscription Keys by the purchased duration (years of subscription).
Reduced Seat Renewal		Renewing less than the full sum of product packs of a Subscription Key - the customer must select which product pack(s) need to be renewed.
Migration		Moving one or more Subscription Keys from one SKU to another, also merging all the Subscription Keys together.
Co-Term		Merging two or more Subscription Keys.
delivery token		The delivery token is an activation code received from the IGEL partner that can activate a manually created demo license.
