Working with UMS IDs in the IGEL Licensing Portal
The UMS ID section of the IGEL License Portal (ILP) is used to manage how licenses are connected to a specific Universal Management Suite (UMS) installation.
Common scenarios include preparing a new UMS environment, assigning Product Packs so devices can receive licenses, verifying license consumption, or reviewing certificate details after a system migration.
In all these cases, the UMS ID acts as the link between the ILP and the UMS, ensuring that licenses are consumed, tracked, and reported correctly.
Introduction to UMS ID Management in the IGEL License Portal
Before a UMS ID appears in the IGEL License Portal (ILP), the Universal Management Suite (UMS) must be registered through the IGEL Customer Portal. During this process, the UMS generates a certificate-based UMS ID, which is then automatically associated with the corresponding company account and becomes available in the ILP.
For detailed instructions, see Registering the UMS.
The ILP uses this identifier to associate Product Packs with the correct UMS instance so that license usage is synchronized and accurately tracked.
In earlier versions of ILP, license deployment used ALD tokens. The new ILP no longer uses tokens - UMS IDs are now simply used to associate licenses with specific UMS instances.
Use the UMS ID section in the ILP to:
View registered UMS IDs linked to your company
Review the UMS certificate and its details
Assign or unassign Product Packs to a specific UMS
Verify which Product Packs are currently associated
Enable or disable Auto assign
Rename a UMS ID
Download the UMS ID
Each UMS ID represents one active UMS installation.
Product Packs assigned to a UMS ID are recognized by that UMS for license distribution and reporting.
Overview of the UMS ID page in ILP

The UMS ID page lists all registered Universal Management Suite (UMS) instances linked to your company account.
Each entry shows license consumption, connected Product Packs, and certificate details for the selected UMS.
Column | Description |
|---|---|
UMS ID | Displays the name of the registered UMS instance. Click the name to open detailed information. |
Licenses Used | Shows the number of licenses currently consumed versus the total number assigned (e.g., 225 / 750). |
Product Packs | Indicates how many Product Packs are assigned to this UMS ID. Click on the UMS ID name to view or manage them. |
Certificate | Opens the certificate information for this UMS ID. |
Auto assign | Enables or disables automatic license assignment for this UMS ID. |
⋯ Menu | Provides quick actions: Download UMS license and Rename. |
A Search bar at the top right lets you filter UMS IDs by name or keyword.
Use the pagination controls at the bottom of the table to adjust how many entries are displayed.
Certificate Details
Each UMS ID includes a Certificate that identifies the registered UMS installation and verifies its link to your company account.
To review the certificate, see Reviewing UMS Certificates in the IGEL License Portal (ILP)
Context Menu Actions (⋯)
Clicking the three-dot menu next to a UMS ID opens quick actions:
Download UMS license – Downloads the license file assigned to that UMS instance.
Rename – Opens a dialog to change the display name of the UMS ID in the ILP.
Auto-assign Option
The Auto assign switch controls whether new licenses in your product packs are automatically assigned to devices managed by the selected UMS.
On – New licenses are distributed automatically when available.
Off – Licenses must be assigned manually in the ILP.
Tip: Keep Auto assign enabled for production environments where licenses are consumed regularly and where Automatic License Deployment (ALD) distribution conditions are configured. For more information, see Configuring the Distribution Conditions.
Disable it in test or staging environments to prevent accidental license consumption.
Each UMS installation generates its own unique UMS ID during setup.
A UMS ID can be associated with only one company at a time.
When migrating or reinstalling the UMS, update the certificate information in ILP.
License assignment actions (assign, unassign, renew) are performed from the Licenses or Product Packs sections.
