IGEL Managed Hypervisor (IMH) enables virtual machine execution on IGEL OS 12 endpoints, allowing the continued use of legacy workloads in modern environments.
You can run virtual machines on IGEL OS 12 devices using the IMH app and centrally manage them via the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) Web App.
For information on how to deploy and configure the app, see IGEL Managed Hypervisor. For information on how to manage VMs running in the IGEL Managed Hypervisor, see How to Manage Virtual Machines Running on IGEL OS 12 from the IGEL UMS Web App.
This article is based on IGEL Managed Hypervisor 2.0.
Known Issue: Licenses Are Being Pulled Only from the First Product Pack Enabled
If there are several Product Packs, only the first one enabled in the UMS is used for deploying licenses to devices.
IGEL Managed Hypervisor Volume-Based License
You need the IGEL Managed Hypervisor volume-based License to use IMH 2.0 or higher on IGEL OS 12 devices.
With IMH 2.x, licensing is based on individual virtual machines, not on IMH app installations, as was the case with IMH 1.x. This means that each virtual machine you create consumes one license.
For information on how to deploy and configure the app, see IGEL Managed Hypervisor. For information on how to control VMs running in the IGEL Managed Hypervisor, see How to Manage Virtual Machines Running on IGEL OS 12 from the IGEL UMS Web App.
Enterprise UMS License Required
You need the Enterprise UMS License to activate the management feature in the IGEL UMS Web App.
The license is included in the following IGEL OS Editions:
-
Enterprise
-
Healthcare
-
Government
-
Business Continuity
How to License the IGEL Managed Hypervisor
-
Contact your IGEL reseller to purchase your Enterprise UMS License and your IGEL Managed Hypervisor Licenses.
-
Deploy the UMS License as described in How to License the IGEL UMS .
-
Make the IGEL Managed Hypervisor Licenses available to your IGEL OS 12 devices. For details, see Setting up Automatic License Deployment (ALD).
When the licenses are present in the UMS, a license will be consumed by each virtual machine that is created with the IGEL Managed Hypervisor.
License Expiry
When the license for a virtual machine expires, it cannot be started. If the license expiration occurs while the virtual machine is running, it will continue to run until it is stopped by the user.
License Renewal
When the license for a virtual machine expires and a renewal license is available in the UMS, the license will be renewed automatically. Please note that the UMS must be accessible at this time.
